How to Sleep Better: Our Top Hacks

Improve your snooze with these tips and tricks.

If your sleep pattern has been a little all over the place recently, you're certainly not alone. Getting a good night's rest is integral for overall health and wellbeing but it's not always that easy to accomplish.

Today we're sharing some useful tips that have helped us on our journey to better sleep, and we hope that you'll find these valuable too.

Create a Routine

Determine how many hours of sleep you need to perform and feel your best. Somewhere between 7-10 hours tends to be the most recommended. Set your sleeping schedule around this, and aim to fall asleep and wake up around the same time each day.

Having a sleep schedule will help prevent those late night surges of energy, and your body will soon become used to winding down at an appropriate time each night.

Food & Drink

We've found that it's best to avoid eating large meals late in the evenings as this can often cause discomfort and indigestion. Try eating your dinner slightly earlier and opt for a light snack (such as of fruit or nuts) if you happen to feel peckish later on.

Drinking a herbal tea can also be useful for settling the stomach. Peppermint, chamomile and lemon & ginger teas are great options to implement into your evening routine.

Essential oils

Lavender oil is widely recognised for it ability to promote restful sleep. You can use essential oils in the form of a pillow spray, a roller ball for pulse points, or add a few drops into a room diffuser. We like to use room diffusers as the gentle mist also helps promote relaxation and calm.

No Tech

We're all guilty of spending too much time scrolling through social media in the late evenings. As tempting as it is, this certainly isn't ideal for helping you wind down and get ready for sleep. If possible, we want to avoid overstimulating the brain and cut back on screen time in the hour before bed. Put your phone aside and listen to a podcast episode, do some gentle stretches or try a guided meditation instead.

Salt Rock Lamp

Create a zen environment in the bedroom by dimming or switching off bright lights. We like to keep a salt rock lamp on the beside table to provide a gentle illumination as we go through our night routines.

Silk Eye Mask

Last but not least, you might want to try using an eye mask to block out all sources of light. The gentle pressure on the eyelids can also provide comfort, but opt for the silk variety for maximum skin benefits.
